The free workshop will be held at Dubbo PCYC on Tuesday from 6 to 7pm and aims to remind people about the role they have to play in keeping children and young people safe from child abuse and neglect.
Western (NSWLHD) Women’s Health Program, clinical nurse consultant Joanne Phillips said while many parents provide safe physical environments, some are not aware of the risks and dangers online.
“These days a child’s online world is as much a part of their life offline, so it is crucial that parents and carers are as involved in supporting their children’s safety and well-being online as they are their child’s physical safety and well-being,” Ms Phillips said.
“The workshop will educate parents and carers about current technology trends and provide targeted advice to support a safe and enjoyable online experience for their children, regardless of their age.
“Technology has given our children new opportunities for social interactions and more ways to learn about the world and express themselves.”
“However, there are also challenges faced by our children online that we need to talk to them about, including online grooming, cyber bullying, online reputation management and the sharing of images.”
