Musician Mojo Juju will be performing in Dubbo as part of her album tour.

Her third album Native Tongue has just been released. Juju, who went to high school in Dubbo, said the music was about her feeling like an outsider when she was growing up.

“I’ve allowed myself to be more vulnerable in my work than I have before, I’ve exposed more of myself and it’s quite liberating,” she said.

The musician said it was the hardest record she had made but it was also the best.

Juju – full name Mojo Ruiz de Luzuriaga – will play at the Dubbo DREAM Festival on October 27 and 28.

Growing up in Dubbo in the ‘90s was a difficult time, Juju said. Not only was she the only openly queer person she knew, but there was a lot of racial tensions, she said.

For every ticket purchased throughout Mojo Juju’s tour $1 will be donated to the Aboriginal Legal Service. Her tour will kick off at Nightfest in Canberra on September 27.

Tickets are available online through her website: mojojuju.net.
