The family that runs together stays together. That was the motto of a large number of families that ran in the Dubbo stampede this year.

Dubbo residents and people from all over Australia came together under cloudy skies to beat personal best times, race against siblings or parents or to just see if they could finish.
The Lyons family made a super effort to run in this year's event and are the epitome of what the stampede is about.
Each dressed as their favourite superhero, Dad Terry Lyons (Superman) said the family ran together because it “felt good”.
“It was a great feeling when we were out there today, we always like to have fun at the stampede and get into it as a family,” he said.
“We just run for fun, in other events we might chase personal best times, but not here, this is all about fun.
“The stampede committee led by Rod Campbell does a wonderful job and this year was magnificent, even with the rain.”
Katie Lyons ran as Wonder Woman and had to summon up all her powers to run in the stampede.
“I competed in a 100 kilometre Oxfam team endurance event yesterday in Sydney along with eight other Dubbo teams, and we got back home at 11 last night because we didn’t want to miss running today.
“We will do anything to be at the Dubbo stampede.
“Our family has been running in the stampede since its inception and we love supporting community events, and this one is awesome.”
The Hosie and Thornton families are a tad more competitive than the Lyons’ and set about to see who amongst them could cross the finish line first.
“I wanted to beat mum, and I usually always do, that’s why I like running at the stampede,” Tom Hosie said.
Mum Annabelle Hosie said she was just happy to finish, even if it was behind the kids.
“My kids love running so I thought it would be good to do this event together,” she said.
“It is good to try and catch the kids, or at least narrow the gap.”
Mum Kate Thornton said this is the fourth year the family has run.
“We love running here, the entire family does it and it is really special to do it the rain for the farmers today,” she said.
“I enjoyed the run today, it would have been too hot if it wasn’t raining,” Flynn Thornton said
Damien Pfeiffer was handing out the medals at the finishing line and enjoyed the day immensely.
“We celebrate with the runners, they all seem to have personal goals, we’ve got fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, pram pushers, and solo runners and they all are here for each other,” he said.
