The Australian National Maritime Museum travelling exhibition is called unDiscovered and features 10 large-scale photographic works by Indigenous artist Michael Cook.
In one of the photographs an Aboriginal man in colonial dress stands on the shore with a tall ship behind him.
“It’s really good to think about the history we have been taught and how much of that is truth and how much is actually fair,” Mr Buchanan said.
The photographs are digitally manipulated and feature borrowed images and the work of the artist, the curator said.
Mr Buchanan will officially open the exhibition at 2pm on Saturday.
