The idea from Chief Executive Officer Michael McMahon, which will go before the council meeting on Monday night, is for the award ceremonies to be consolidated.
The Dubbo Day Awards are presented each year in November to mark the anniversary of Dubbo's gazettal as a village on November, 23 1849. However, under the CEO’s plan that would change.
“As Community Service awards would be presented at the ceremony it is proposed that no awards be presented or an event held on Dubbo Day each year being 23 November,” Mr McMahon said.
The Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year, Services to Sport Award, Cultural Person of the Year, Community Event of the Year and Community Service Awards would all be presented at a Christmas party which would also acknowledge council’s volunteers.
It is also proposed the Australia Day event would no longer be run by council but by a community group.
“These events would not contain official proceedings but would be more aimed at family activities similar to what have been provided at previous Australia Day events,” Mr McMahon said.

The CEO said the council staff would oversee the planning of the event, however a community group would be selected through a public expression of interest. Council would provide adequate funding to host the event.
“The local community groups will develop experience in hosting and conducting events while receiving [an] appropriate donation for the support of their chosen charity and service,” he said.
The proposal will be determined at the Dubbo Regional Council August meeting on Monday night at the Dubbo council chambers.
The meeting is also live streamed on the council Facebook page and website.
