Vinesh Bennett loves making cricket bats; he lives for the feel of the plane in his hands as he shapes the willow that will help batsmen score the winning runs in a crucial match.
“It takes me up to three hours to make a bat; I’ll do it over two or three days because once you start to remove the willow you want to make sure you give the player what they want,” he said.
“We are here to launch the Southern Cross bat range into the Dubbo Sportsmans Warehouse but also to show the local community how we make a cricket bat; I’ll be in store all day Thursday. We do make bats for the local conditions, in Dubbo the wickets are playing a bit slower and lower mainly due to the drought, so we’ve made a product that will suit a batsmen playing on local wickets, but also we have bats that are good for the short or the long form of the game.”
The Sportsmans Warehouse and Southern Cross Cricket will also sponsor two under 18 registered Dubbo players, a male and a female for the next 12 months with a full kit to get them through a cricket season.
