A record 30 teams (120 players) competed for the $4400 prize-money, with visiting teams coming from Nyngan, Orange, Narromine, Coonabarabran, Gunnedah, Gilgandra. Local sides from Macquarie, City and Railway also joined a good listing from West Dubbo.
After the preliminary four rounds, there were three undefeated teams, which then had to play off for the major end of the purse.
West Dubbo’s Jay Stephenson, Jarrod Palmer, Josh Andriske and Matt Thompson came through as winners, defeating Beryl Hobson, Kay McKenzie, Laurance Lawson and Annette McMillian in the final.
It came after McMillian’s team defeated West Dubbo’s June Usher, Tracy Silk, Ros Gilholme and Judy Cassidy in the semifinal.
Club Dubbo bowls manager Anthony Brown thanked the staff for their efforts in making the tournament a great success, as well as the men’s committee for their efforts.
Event sponsor Sainsbury Automotive owners Terry Green and sales manager Graham Miller were on hand to present the winners’ cheques with the pair expressing their appreciation of how the tournament was conducted.
