Save the Children and Macquarie Regional Library are joining forces to decrease the digital divide between students in Dubbo and their city counterparts.
The Programming the Future program will train local service providers to teach workshops on areas such as coding and virtual reality.
...Even if they don’t become coders or computer programmers they’re important skills to know.
- Angela Beard
Programming the Future team leader Angela Beard said the Macquarie Regional Library branches were the perfect place to launch the pilot program. The library was already embracing technology through coding workshops, she said.
As well as learning about the latest in cutting-edge technology, Ms Beard said the workshops also taught critical thinking, communication and problem solving.
“What we’re finding is that even if they don’t become coders or computer programmers they’re important skills to know,” she said.
Save the Children is working with headspace and Ms Beard said they were looking to extend the program into any Dubbo schools or organisations that were interested.
