OUR VIEW: It’s the last chance to nominate for a Rhino

What great news to read that so many businesses have nominated for the 2018 Dubbo Rhino Awards that the Dubbo Chamber of Commerce has now extended their deadline – because there are even more still wanting to nominate.

The chamber of commerce said they had so many requests from businesses saying they needed a little extra time to get their nominations in, that they have decided to accommodate them, by extending the deadline for a couple of days.

The opportunity gives not only those who need to still submit to do it, but also those who have already submitted to unsubmit, make a couple of changes, and then resubmit their applications.

About 70 worthy businesses have so far applied for the 2018 awards, with each business nominating for an average of four categories.

That means the judges have a whopping 300 entries to consider – and that doesn’t include the people’s choice categories.

With the extension in deadline the numbers only going to grow.

The amount of nominations are a testament the the caliber of businesses around town – each and every one of them worthy of the nomination in which ever category.

We feel sorry for the judges who only get to pick one winner, and only one Gold Rhino winner before the night – they have just a couple of hours of work ahead of them in the next few weeks.

It’s once again great to see the wonderful businesses nominating for the Rhino Awards. After the high quality last year, our business community continues to put its best foot forward each and every year.

Last year we congratulated The Westhaven Association on taking out the highly contested Gold Rhino.

The quiet achiever is a not-for-profit provider of disability services and has a big impact on the local economy with 350 people employed around around $20 million injected into Dubbo through wages.

This year, who knows. The judges have a lot of work to do before then – and we wish them luck!

We will cast our vote for the People’s Choice, like we do each year, and we are glad that’s our only responsibility on that front.

Good luck everyone! And remember – you’ve got a couple more days, so get those nominations in quick!
