Applications were originally set to close on Thursday, August 2 but were extended to Sunday, August 5 after a number of businesses requested additional time.
Dubbo Chamber president Matt Wright said the end of the financial year, and recent local events like diga.tech, meant the closing date crept up on many people.

He urged people to use the extra time “wisely”, even if they had already submitted their application.
“It’s probably just giving those people the best opportunity … to complete anything and there’s even a few businesses that have completed their entries and submitted, you can actually unsubmit, make some changes and then resubmit,” Mr Wright said.
“It might actually give them the chance to refine those entries.”
Many businesses had been nominated by other people “fairly late in the piece”, he added, so the extension would also allow those businesses, which might not have considered applying otherwise, to complete their applications.
About 70 businesses have applied so far for the 2018 awards, with each business nominating for an average of four categories.
It means judges have about 300 entries to consider – not including the people’s choice categories – with that number set to grow by Sunday.
“The people’s choice categories were enormous again,” Mr Wright said.
“I think businesses are just looking for that little bit of an edge.
“While on the surface it might seem two businesses in the same industry, offering the same thing, are alike, you just look for that point of difference and sometimes it could be an award win. And some businesses look at winning an award as something to brag about but it really is a testament to the quality of the business and the people that are in it.”
For any business people that may have been questioning whether or not to apply, Mr Wright said the extension could be an omen.
“That extra couple days means that if there is a business out there who does want to submit an application, there’s no stopping them. It’s not too late.”
