The school’s teachers decided to focus on improvements to the teaching of writing across the school.
Buninyong Public School External mentor Anne-Marie Furney said In 2014 student performance in writing was causing serious concern.
“The team decided to adopt a coaching approach to professional learning, and Buninyong Public School is a school of teacher leaders,” she said. “Everyone is invested in the belief that teachers can make a difference to learning outcomes and that regardless of circumstances all children deserve a truly first-class education that prepares them for a quality life in the twenty-first century.”
School principal Anne van Dartel said winning an educational leadership award shows the schools focus on improving every teacher in every room has worked.
