A Country Championships heat and Wild Card runner, Molasses showed his quality when winning an open class event at Wellington last start.
That has made him tough to place for Forbes trainer Dennis Bush and the experienced horseman has opted to nominate the five-year-old for Thursday’s Conditional Benchmark 70 (1000m) at Hawkesbury.
Molasses has five wins and four placings from 15 starts.
The most recent win at Wellington was his best, as he won by a length in a classy field.
Wednesday’s $30,000 event at Hawkesbury has attracted 12 nominations with another country trainer, Bathurst’s Dean Mirfin, among them.
Mirfin has put forward Keymaster, who hasn’t raced since a Highway event on April 21. Final fields are released Tuesday.
