The brothers, who all train at Dubbo, dominated the meeting and Dar took out the day’s feature event.
Zoutenant took out the Dubbo City Toyota Carinda Cup (1400m). Leading for home, Zoutenant ($3.50) was briefly challenged but pulled away to win by nearly four lengths from Rusty Motorbike (Michael Hackett, $3) and Zartini (Kath Bell-Pitomac, $11).
RELATED:
Peter Whitehead, a part owner of Zoutentant, had previously won a Carinda Cup as the trainer of the Stan Leonard-owned Local Bred.
Unfortunately, during the running of the 2018 Cup the well-performed Oskastar ($2.50 favourite), trained by Garry Lunn, broke down when leading down the back straight and had to be euthanised.
Providing some solace for Garry Lunn and ‘Bronco’ Lunn, their four year old mare Pretty Pine (Jake Pracey-Holmes, $4) led from mid race to win the Complete Asset Management Benchmark 45 Handicap (1700m) from Bon Honour (Tiffany Jeffries, $5) and Solid Power (Michael Hackett, $15).
Gaining a late rails run, the Michael Lunn trained Dragon’s Mistake (Jake Pracey-Holmes, $6) won the opening race, the Loch Lomond Border Leicester Stud Maiden Handicap (1000m). Dragon’s Mistake is also owned by ‘Bronco’.
Backing up from a maiden win at the Duck Creek Picnics,Blue Channel was a stylish winner of the ‘Bronco’ Lunn Shearing Contractor Class 1 Handicap (1400m) for owner John Smith from Gilgandra and Nyngan trainer Rodney Robb.
After enjoying a nice run behind the leaders, Blue Channel (Michael Hackett, $2.50) won by almost a length from Unresolved (Jake Pracey-Holmes, $1.60 fav.) and Jawsome (Daniel Pitomac,$4.40).
Peter ‘Wacky’ Pennell is the only trainer at Carinda and he was a popular win when Knight’s Honour (Ken Dunbar,$1.60 fav.) tracked the leaders before beating Milady’s Jam (James Rogers,$7.50) and Exquisite Dreamer (Eleanor Webster-Hawes, $17) in the Local Liquor’s Gateway Drive Maiden Plate (1400m).
First leg of a winning treble for Dubbo jockey Ken Dunbar was the Connie Greig trained Felicette ($7) which raced near the lead before winning the O’Brien Brigalows Pastoral Company Benchmark 48 Handicap (1100m) from Poet’s Spirit (Jake Pracey-Holmes, $4.20 fav.) and Nev’s Destiny (Andrew Banks,$7).
The well organised Carinda meeting attracted a good crowd.
