Dubbo Rotunda Markets coordinator Geraldine McKay said colder winter months does not affect the market’s success. Sixty stalls spanned Macquarie street, providing ample shopping for residents and visitors.
“Stall holders actually draw people in, the Scouts have kindling on sale for this time of year, that’s an incentive for anyone,” she said.
There were free hand warmers offered with every gift box sold as a move to entice market-goers to shop from 8am to 1pm.
“The markets draw a crowd which encourages local business to open for a Sunday trade. Twenty shops were open in the precinct, half of which don’t normally open ... Some of them extend opening hours that they would normally open,” Ms McKay said.
“The markets started in October 2015 and have been steadily growing since then, we’ve got three times the number of stalls, we’re over 50 stalls every market now and into the 60s for some.
“We get fabulous feedback from people, it gives them something to do on a Sunday, it brings them down to the centre of Dubbo.
“The business centre of a town is something that hasn’t quite got that pizzazz it had years ago because of the way business is done now-a-days, and this event gives that draw card to get people in the street, interacting socially and shopping,” she said.
