On Tuesday night at Barden Park, Wallaroos star Mahalia Murphy helped some of the Rhinos’ women through the fundamentals of the sport in a bid to ensure the yellow and blacks are a force to be reckoned with in years to come.
The 24-year-old, also a member of the Australian Rugby Sevens system, said a handful of the club’s best showed her enough to suggest the Rhinos will be making a charge for the finals in 2019.
“It was really good, I enjoyed being out there and helping them through some of the basics,” she said.
“A couple of the girls were injured and others were away, but the girls there were willing to learn and took in as much as they could.”
Murphy put the Rhinos girls through some basic catch-and-pass drills and worked on their tackling technique, while also touching on the ruck.
“We went over it all and focused on that, they were so excited and learnt so much in one session, and that’s a great thing for me to, to get that sort of feedback is great,” Murphy added.
“The girls that were there, I know they can take it back to the other girls to better themselves and the whole team.”
The Rhinos girls play Orange City Lions at Apex Oval during Saturday’s penultimate round before a round 15 clash with Temora at Forbes to round out the 2018 season.
The men’s side is also in action at Apex Oval on Saturday, playing host to the unbeaten Narromine Gorillas.
It is a special weekend for the club as it will be holding its Old Boys and International round.
The Old Boys will play from 12pm in what is sure to be a highlight while the New Holland Agriculture Cup first grade side will wear jerseys featuring colours from every country Rhinos players have ever hailed from.
