“In effect its our birthday. We celebrate staff achievements with our Recognise Excellence Daily (RED) program,” Head of Campus Cathy Maginnis said
“It’s about celebrating CSU, but also celebrating the staff of CSU, its students, and how we engage with the community, so for us foundation day is very important.
Dubbo Regional Council’s deputy mayor Anne Jones launched the university’s economic impact report.
Overall in 2016 CSU contributed to $8.4 million to gross regional product for the region, $8.1 million to household income and 107 full-time jobs in the region.
“Charles Sturt University provides people of regional NSW opportunities to gain education without having to move to city’s… It provides jobs for people who live and play in this region … we know that people who study in the regions are more likely to stay there,” she said.
Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) Robyn McGuiggan awarded the first year of excellence awards as part of their staff reward and recognition program. She awarded the CSU WarOnWaste team award to Dubbo member Sabrina Fernando.
“I wasn’t expecting it, it feels pretty good. It’s very important to save waste,” Ms Fernando said.
“All the staff members get a long with one another, it’s a great community to work in,”
Among the winners was Head of Campus Cathy Maginnis who won the PK Basu International Photo competition award which is honour of the late Associate Professor Parikshit Basu, known as PK. The international program he helped create is now widespread across CSU faculties and schools.
PK’s son Anindo Basu congratulated Ms Maginnis. “The photo that wins is about someone who can capture the sense of global community which is something my dad really felt strongly about.
“Dad loved the people of CSU, the staff and the students that make the CSU community,” he said.
Today there has been lots of enjoyment, and recognising each other, celebrating what we do, where we’ve come from and where we’re going,” Ms Maginnis said.
