That’s how Dubbo Turf Club general manager Vince Gordon wants the city of Dubbo to view his club after the western districts giant threw its support behind yet another charity event.
This Friday’s meeting will turn into a Give Me 5 For Kids fundraiser with Gordon and his team at the Merrilea Road-based racecourse keen to help raise money for a charity that’s raised more than $22.3 million for the paediatric wards across the region in 24 years.
“That’s it, that’s what it’s all about. It’s certainly a good race day, it always is here, but the opportunity to continue the work the club’s doing to get involved with various charities is what it’s all about,” Gordon said.
“We want to be seen as being part of the community.
“We hope the race day will become a regular meeting on the calendar.”
The day will feature live entertainment and fashions on the field that requires a “splash of yellow” which is the theme for the day.
On track, Gordon was thrilled with Wednesday’s acceptances, which continue to surpass industry averages.
The eight-race program has 111 acceptors, and is the club’s last meeting before its premierships are handed out.
Champion jockey Greg Ryan leads the jockey’s title race, but big days from Eleanor Webster-Hawes or Mathew Cahill could potentially topple the king.
Cameron Crockett, Clint Lundholm, Garry Lunn and Connie Greig are in line for the trainers premiership, while horse of the year looks to be won by Cowboys Karma.
