To enter, students will be required to write a 1000 word essay on: “Why is the Centenary of Anzac important for modern Australia?”
The program is open to students in year ten and 11 across NSW and scholarship winners will travel to commemorative site in Athens, Lemnos, Villers-Brettonneux, Passchendaele and London.
Take a road trip
The NSW Government will invest more than $2 million in a new marketing program designed to entice more travellers to experience some of NSW’s wonderful road trips.
The ‘Discover More’ Road Trips program, developed by the State’s tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, promotes 15 multi-stop drive itineraries via www.visitnsw.com, taking visitors through more than 150 regional NSW towns, including many in the Barwon electorate.
Our electorate has such an incredible story to tell and we want to make sure that we continue to invest in initiatives that inspire more visitors to experience our region first-hand and this new program will do just that.
The NSW Road Trips marketing program has been developed by Destination NSW in consultation with the six Destination Networks.
NSW transition to NDIS
July 2018 represents a significant milestone for people with disability, their families and their carers, with the NDIS now available to all eligible people with a disability in NSW.
The NDIS is the largest social reform in a generation and now any person in NSW who is eligible for the NDIS can join the Scheme, even if they haven’t previously received support.
More than 85,000 people with disability in NSW are now benefiting from the NDIS. The NSW Government is contributing more than $3.2 billion to the scheme, and has delivered on our commitment to the NDIS.
Youth organisation funding
Local organisations supporting youth are encouraged to apply for the second round of Community Partnership Taking Action (COMPACT) grants. $1.2 million is available to community groups for innovative programs to support local young people.
I encourage every local youth services provider and community organisation to apply for this outstanding opportunity to join the COMPACT Alliance.
COMPACT partnerships are valued at $50,000 to $150,000 annually for up to two years, across a range of sectors including arts, sports and education. Applications must be presented in a partnership or consortia to be eligible.
Applications close Tuesday, August 7 at 5pm.
Celebrate our seniors
I urge local organisations to apply for a share of $200,000 to host events that encourage older people to join or feature in 2019 NSW Seniors Festival events and activities. Applications are open to local councils, volunteer groups and community organisations.
The 2019 NSW Seniors Festival will run from February 13 to 24 and organisations are encouraged to plan events now, with three funding categories available:
Tier 1 grants of up to $1000 for small-scale local events or activities targeted at community organisations and schools, Tier 2 grants from $1,001 to $5000 for local events targeted at larger community organisations and
Tier 3 grants from $5,001 to $10,000 for broader community events targeted at local councils in partnership with organisations and groups. Grant applications close at 5pm on Friday, August 10.
