A 59 year-old truck driver is celebrating the best dinner of his life after discovering his quick meal stop at the Tullamore Hotel has won him a $6000 jackpot and a Mustang.

Professional truck driver Colin Ahearn stopped at the Tullamore Hotel for dinner and decided to have a game of Keno at the same time.

He hadn’t been home for four weeks and was resting in his truck when he was woken to be told he’d won the Ford Mustang GT Fastback in Keno’s Win a Mustang promotion.

“I was in there for tea. I’m always on the highway,” Colin said.

“My missus didn’t believe me when I called to tell her. It took me a while to believe it was true too.”

The Mustang will take pride of place in the avid motor enthusiast’s car collection. Colin currently owns a 1993 Holden Monaro a 1962 Holden EH station wagon.

However, when Colin isn’t driving his rig up and down Australia’s east coast, he usually runs around his home town of Kangaroo Flats, Victoria in a Nissan SUV.

He agreed the Mustang would make a huge improvement on his current ride.

“I’ve already driven it [the Mustang]. My mate has got a Mustang convertible and I took his for a drive. I was pretty happy with it,” Colin said.

The winner said he played his seven, hand-picked numbers to win the seven number jackpot that gave him entry into the promotion.

“I play them all the time. They’re my favourite numbers. I’ve always had them,” Colin said of his winning combination.

The father of four and grandfather of nine said the $6,000 jackpot would also come in handy when he and his wife of 40 years set off on a boat cruise they had already booked for later this month.

Tullamore Hotel owner Anna Heitzmann said she was delighted for the winner and extremely excited about being the venue to give away the prize.

“A young staff member, Kristen, was working that night, and helped the winner fill out the ticket,” Anna said.

“When he won the jackpot, he gave her $40 to celebrate after her shift,” she said.

“We’d love to see him touring in his Mustang if he ever comes up this way in it. We might even get to go for a ride.”

Keno’s General Manager, Terry Fowler, congratulated the winner.

“This was one of Keno’s most exciting promotions and we’re thrilled that a great regional pub like the Tullamore Hotel has been able to give away this prize,” he said.
