THE Mudgee Small Farm Field Days has proven itself as the premier field days of Central West NSW, with the 2017 event celebrating the biggest turnout in its 40-year history.

The 2018 event, held on July 13 and 14, promises a variety of new attractions as well as the regular favourites.
“Our mission to inform, educate and connect rural people with information and solution providers is as important today as it was 40 years ago,” said field days and Australian Rural Education Centre general manager Cassandra Stanford.
With the continued aim to promote innovation and sustainability in agriculture and rural living, the field days has evolved with the needs and desires of the targeted audience. Particularly in these dry times, landholders need all the advice and solutions available to them, and a day out is also pertinent to their mental health.
Nothing beats the one-on-one guidance that a field day can provide. There’ll be various exhibits on hand to provide support and information.
“We’ve gradually grown the number of talks and demonstrations over the years,” Cassandra said.
“Some of these include the horticulture talk tent, food talk tent, Watershed Landcare talks, livestock and equine demonstrations.
“This year, we are also introducing a new Livestock Talk Tent.
“This will cover topics such as feeding in drought conditions, artificial breeding, chemical-free practices, equine dentistry and horse health, to name a few.”
There will also be more horse talks and demonstrations, including the High Velocity Trick Riding team doing breathtaking performances over the two days.
Most of the horse demonstrations and exhibits will be concentrated around the new arena, which will make it easier for visitors to navigate.
The Festival of Yesteryear is back, with a brand new shed and even more antique machinery and vehicles on display. Go back in time and experience the days of old.
“This year we’ve also introduced a Farmers Market area to help promote the culinary delights that Mudgee and the surrounding areas have to offer,” she said.
“Support your local producers and taste the difference of homemade!
“Once again there will be lots of activities for families and kids to do, from the Mudgee Youth in Agriculture (MY AG) tent to the Kids Circus in the centre ring, to fashion parades and live music.
“As well as the many rural products available, there is also a great array of homewares, fashion, caravan, camping and much more. There’s something for everyone!”
