The unique ring, featuring a portrait of a solider, was found by avid gardener Herb Simpson on his West Dubbo property.
Other than the photo, the only other markings on the ring are a small 9CT etched on to the back.
Mr Simpson shared the photo of the ring on Facebook and his friend Regi Kelleher reposted his post, calling for people to share in search of the owner.
The re-post has since been shared 2266 times with comments also left on the post with ideas on how best to find the owners.
Ms Kelleher said she was slowly making her way through the ideas.
“Herb said he doesn’t want the ring just sitting somewhere and not getting back to the family where it belongs.
“So I’m just helping a mate who can’t physically do it himself.
“We are hoping someone will see the photo, and recognise it as a photo they have seen in their family pictures, and be able to identify the person.
“It’s a family heirloom, and we hope it can go back to the family and then be passed down.”
If anyone recognises the person in the photograph on the ring, they can contact the Daily Liberal and we will put you in touch with Ms Kelleher.
