After Dubbo College suffered defeat at the hands of Bathurst last week, May and the rest of the team will be cheering on Orange on Thursday and Friday in the hope the prestigious cup will still be up for grabs next week.
A Bathurst High School victory this week will see it claim the Astley Cup for a second year while a loss would give Dubbo College an outside chance of ending its drought in the time-honoured competition when it hosts Orange next Wednesday and Thursday.

“For us to be in contention we need Orange High to win but getting beat by 174 points (at Bathurst) was not an ideal situation,” Astley Cup coordinator May said.
“Home ground is a big advantage and it was hard for us.”
May tipped Orange to be too strong in the netball, basketball and hockey but tipped Bathurst to be the better in both football matches.
“The athletics, I don’t really know … but the rugby league could be really key at the end of day two. That could have a big bearing on it.
“But as I said, home ground advantage is massive and that’s definitely worth a few points for Orange.”
The rugby league contest is the penultimate event in this week’s tie, with the match to be played at 12.30pm on Friday.
The action between Orange and Bathurst starts from 9am, Thursday.
