After more than six months of work, Dubbo College will open the show at the city’s tiered venue on Wednesday.
Man of Steel brings together more than 125 students and staff members, including a cast of 44 and a band of 23 members for three performances only this week.
Dubbo Regional Theatre manager Linda Christof noted the significance of the endeavour ahead of the curtains going up.
‘It’s the first time a secondary school has staged a production on the theatre stage of this scale,” she said.
“Being a combined secondary school collaboration, you can imagine the high level coordination that is required.
“They have a large enthusiastic team behind the production and our staff have worked closely with them to ensure it goes smoothly.”
The show represents an opportunity for the wider community to enjoy live local theatre.
“I encourage not only friends and family connected to the colleges to attend but general audiences as well,” Ms Christof said.
“The ticket price is very reasonable and the entertainment value high.
“Tickets are selling fast.”
Man of Steel tells the story of the superhero and heroine, and their entertaining battle with the evil Countess Olga and her henchmen.
Year 11 student David Woods won the role of Superman, while Year 12 student Phoebe Farrell will play the role of heroine Linda Street.
Phoebe has been heavily involved in circus production with Circus West at Dubbo College.
“Linda Street is feisty and strong-willed and I love playing the role,” she said.
“I really want to go to NICA (the National Institute of Circus Arts) when I finish school at the end of 2018 and I believe taking this major role in the musical will really help me to develop performance skills that will be really useful.”
For Maeve Sparrow, being chosen to play the villainous Countess Olga is a dream come true.
“It is a fantastic opportunity and it will enable me to use all my skills including singing, dancing and acting,” she said.
Tickets for the Wednesday matinee, and 6.30pm performances on Wednesday and Thursday are on sale at the theatre box office and website.
