The veterinary nurse will farewell her curly locks at the Narromine Hotel on Saturday, August 11 and initially set a fundraising target of $560. But with some overwhelming support from both the Dubbo and Narromine communities, she’s now aiming even higher.
Miss Rasmussen said a passion for healthcare access prompted her to take part in the fundraiser.
“In the country we have to travel further and it costs more money in travel and accommodation,” she said.
“I’m doing it to raise money and awareness about … what the Foundation does for people in need.”
Blood cancers like leukaemia claim more lives each year than breast cancer or melanoma.
“They [Leukaemia Foundation] provide money for people in treatment. They also provide housing and transport and give [patients] lots of information about the treatment they have to go through.”
Miss Rasmussen has already raised $2054 – well over her original target of $560. Her work – Don Crosby Veterinary Surgeons and Narromine Vet Hospital – have also pledged to donate the proceeds of nail-clipping for the month on June.
Miss Rasmussen has also placed jars at businesses across Narromine, saying the community has been “great”.
“I didn’t think I would get this much support,” she said.
