Woodies firsts and seconds will swap TG Millner Field for the Cowra Rugby Grounds for round 12 action with Northern Suburbs, a huge coup for the Cowra rugby club and a first for the town.
Frost identified two factors driving the game to Cowra, and said there’s a “genuine desire” to boost rugby in Australia.
“Eastwood has a long, long history with Cowra not only through the Millner family but also the annual cricket game. The history between the clubs goes back decades,” he said.
“Sydney Rugby Union has also started encouraging clubs to take a competition game to the bush. Norths has links with the town also so that’s why it’s this game.
“We want to do what we can to help rugby.”
Frost has been associated with Eastwood rugby for 10 years and he can’t recall the club taking a game outside the city. In fact, he said it’s possible this match in Cowra could mark Woodies’ first competition match away from Sydney.
“This is the first time Eastwood’s taken a game out of Sydney for as long as I can remember. This could be the first time we've taken a competition game to the bush.
“Quite a few of the boys are from the bush but they’ve been playing footy in Sydney for quite sometime. Everyone’s pretty keen about it.”
Eastwood’s one of five teams, along with Norths, locked at the summit of the table after 10 rounds with seven victories.
“It couldn’t be closer. The top five have all played 10 and won seven. The only difference is bonus points. This is a really critical game for us and might well determine the minor premiers. Neither side will be taking it lightly, it’ll be fair dinkum.”
The Shute Shield match will be played at the Cowra Rugby Grounds on Saturday, June 30.
