The bi-annual New Residents Night was held on Thursday, June 21, which drew a mix of families, couples and younger professionals who have moved to the City for career opportunities.
Hosted by Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) and held at the Western Plains Cultural Centre, the event allows new residents to meet with key businesses and to also connect with volunteer organisations and community groups within the area.
DRC’s New Resident Program Officer Tammy Pickering there were many shared experiences around moving and how our latest locals were embracing their new lifestyles within our city.
“The night had residents who had moved from as far as the UK, Interstate and Sydney,” she said.
“Evocities has been working with new residents to the city since 2010, the numbers of new residents to the city has increased compared to this time last year and with the current Evocities marketing activity in Sydney such as Motorway Billboards, digital bus shelters and drive time radio spots the flow of enquiries through the Evocities program is growing.”
Ms Pickering has engaged with almost 200 enquiries this year alone, but also works with major employers to promote the City’s lifestyle appeal and benefits when undertaking recruitment so that candidates considering a job opportunity or career progression will also see other benefits.
“The Dubbo Region’s Mayor and Councillors also like to welcome new residents as it’s an opportunity to highlight the region’s growth and opportunities while sharing some local insights along the way,” she said.
Ms Pickering said on the night there were instances where the businesses in the room had stories to share of when they had moved to the city and have grown a successful business or a member of a community group on the night was a new resident only 12 months ago is now volunteering with one of the city’s arts festival.
The next new Residents Night will be held around November, so if anyone missed the recent event they can still register their interest with Tammy Pickering on relocate@dubbo.nsw.gov.au and when details are finalised closer to the date, she will be in touch.
