The silver medal was a fitting reward for an incredible run at Narellan, but the cherry on top was to come after that.
The Dubbo-based Orange CYMS midfielder was also named to represent NSW at the Country Championships at Berri, South Australia, in August.
Hogan joins a Blues’ 18-strong squad dominated by Central West players – nine in fact.
And she’s not the only Dubbo representative gearing up to play on the big stage, with three more women recently named on NSW sides in the masters arena.
Deb Brown has been named in the NSW over 45 women’s team to play at the National Championships in Western Australia in September.
Helen McGee was named as a shadow in the over 50s squad, while multiple Australian representative Tracey Hardie-Jones – no stranger to the big stage – was named in the NSW over 55s side.
Hogan said she was stunned to be named in the NSW Country side, despite her strong performance at the state championships.
“I was very anxious ... I was shocked when I saw my name on the list on Thursday,” Hogan said.
“I played the country champs last year in Townsville and enjoyed that experience.”
Hogan said she was excited about representing NSW for a second time, and said the step-up in competition is immense, but enjoyable.
“It’s a pretty big step up,” she said.
“I love the experience and to play in state colours is an honour.”
In a post on its Facebook page, Dubbo Hockey Association congratulated Hardie-Jones, Brown and McGee, as well as Hogan, on their selections.
“A wonderful achievement for a wonderful group of women!!” the post read.
“Dubbo Hockey is proud of each of you and wishes you well for the State Championships in September.”
At club level, Hogan has been a welcome addition to Orange CYMS’s women’s Premier League Hockey (PLH) side after the Dubbo Blue Jays club folded at the start of 2017. The green and golds sit on top of the 2018 ladder and on Saturday Hogan proved a vital cog in a 5-1 demolition of Souths.
Her connection with CYMS teammates Hoey and Smith will be invaluable for NSW Country, and Hogan said she’s relishing her time playing in Orange.
“We’ve got a great bunch of girls,” she said.
