Mount Canobolas and areas to the south and west of the city saw more significant coverage, but most residents in town had only patchy corners of their gardens and layers on their vehicles as proof of the snowfall in the early hours.
According to www.weatherzone.com.au there may be further snow on the way later on Sunday.
There is a “chance of showers, most likely late this afternoon and evening” with “snow possible above 700 metres”, according to weatherzone.
At 9am the temperature at Orange Regional Airport was 0.7 degrees Celsius, with a maximum of just 4 degrees for the day predicted.
Cabonne Council advises that access to the summit of Mount Canobolas remains closed.
Other locations in the Central West received more meaningful snow, especially the area around Oberon and Shooters Hill.
All Group 10 matches have been called off on Sunday due to inclement weather across the region.
The group will decide later whether teams will share the points for the games or try to reschedule them
