Entries are now open for the awards, which were officially launched at the Dubbo Chamber of Commerce Race Day at Dubbo Turf Club on Friday.
Winning can raise a business’ profile in the community by setting it as a shining example of excellence, but the opposite is also the case according to Chamber president Matt Wright.
Each year, members of the public can – and do – nominate businesses and employees they already love and admire.
“There are some businesses that will happily just enter the Rhino Awards because their business is bigger, is good enough … or certainly just because it’s part of their plan but there are businesses that just need a bit of a push along,” Mr Wright said.
“They’re the ones that … think they’re not quite there, but the rest of the public does.
“So … if you’ve got a favourite business, a favourite person who works in a business, or you’ve got a great employee and you want to get their name out there, certainly jump on and nominate them. We’ll notify them … and we’ll guide them through the entry process.”
In 2017, 18 award categories were taken out by 17 different businesses with winners ranging from not-for-profit The Westhaven Association to ‘Uber for freight’ Channel 40.
”Each year we continue to see new names in amongst the winners … the diverse range of businesses that are represented in there [are] reflective of Dubbo as a city,” Mr Wright said.
“While the ultimate aim of entering the awards is to win it, which is a fantastic achievement if you do … another part is looking at where a business has come from, where it is today and even where it is heading into the future.
“[Winners say] the amount of kick it does give their business is enormous, the overall exposure that they get and even that bit of camaraderie that team there gets as a result of winning a team award, it creates a whole lot of positivity amongst the business.”
