Uniting Dubbo is holding their ninth Dads for Kids Festival at the Dubbo Showground from 10am on Sunday.

From motorbikes to free family photos, Program Manager, Uniting Child and Family Team program manager Cathy Lambert said she hoped the event would create great memories for families.

“These days it’s all so easy to get on your phone or your iPad or play video games. It’s nice to get out in the fresh air for the day and do something like go on a scavenger hunt together or kick the footy back and forwards or just watch Circus West come past on their stilts,” Ms Lambert said.

“That’s what I love about the day, just seeing the smiles on everyone's faces and everyone just having a great day.”

More than 30 service providers and organisations will also be available at the event.

“It can be very daunting to walk into an office somewhere and ask for help. This is a fun day and on the way past you can meet the people who provide the services. You pick up a brochure and then when you need help you know where to go. It’s also nice too just to be around other fathers and swap stories and get that sense of community,” Ms Lambert said.

The goal of the event was to acknowledge the contributions of fathers within the family unit.

“Historically men were the financial providers and women were the carers and that all started to change about ten years ago when we saw a real shift. Men are spending a lot more time with their kids there was also a shift with men being the main carer for their family,” Ms Lambert said.

“It’s a great day out for the whole family. Yes, we’re celebrating dads but it’s really for everybody.”

The first 400 children at the Dads For Kids Festival on Sunday will receive a free sports ball.
