In Mudgee, Floppas Automotive & Marine is one of three locations where you can drop off toiletries and the 1 Inglis Street establishment is already overflowing with bags of everyday essentials.

The initiative aims to assist our state’s farmers during the drought by delivering them toiletries – a commodity that’s often overlooked.

There are 19 donation points throughout the state as people are encouraged to drop off something as little as a bar of soap before it’s put into a pack and taken out to farmers in need.

T & E Fabrications (20B Industrial Ave) and Ability Links (17B Perry Street) are the two other Mid-Western drop-off points and event organiser Sue Wilkin says the support from Mudgee has been tremendous.

“The town is really helping us out right now,” Sue said.

“It’s the little things that count for these farmers. We don’t take cash donations but these toiletries can go a long way to helping.”

“It’s not just for the farmers either. It’s for the families – the wives and kids.

“With Father’s Day coming up, we’d like to give some of the children a chance to give a gift to their dad – that’s something they might not be able to do otherwise.”

Sue is stationed at Tamworth and has teamed up with the Rural Chaplan and Aussie Helpers as the pair of organisations are making the deliveries possible.

“A lot of farming families are going without the daily necessities to redirect the money into hand feeding their livestock,” Sue said.

“We are always seeking collection points throughout the NSW region, if your business can help please let us know.”

There’s no time better than the present to bring aid to our farmers as the dry weather is taking its toll.
