Miss Hugo A Gogo will be backing up after a win at Mudgee last month and shapes up as a good chance to go back-to-back in the Kitch and Sons Benchmark 55 Handicap over 1100 metres.
Press Review has been installed as $2.70 favourite for the Ray Boden Painting Maiden Handicap over 1400m, while Galaxy Warrior and Baker’s Image are also among the leading contenders for their races.
Miss Hugo A Gogo will go against Wayne Hudd’s Bare Foot Babe, who is also a last start winner, taking victory in a Benchmark 55 Handicap at Wellington a fortnight ago.
Hudd’s runner will start as $3.10 favourite with champion country jockey Greg Ryan in the saddle, while Miss Hugo A Gogo is on the second line at $4.20 with Mikayla Weir holding the reins. The pair will start from barriers eight and 10 respectively.
Williams’ three-year-old filly Press Review is coming off the back of a third at Dubbo a week ago and is tipped to be too good for the competition in her hunt for a first win.
Ryan will ride her, with the filly carrying 58 kilograms and starting from barrier five. Garry Frazer’s In The Zone ($4) and Garry Lunn’s Unresolved ($4.80) are expected to be among the competition.
Galaxy Warrior has proved himself to be a strong performer on country tracks, with wins at Dubbo, Wellington, Narromine and Orange, as well as mixed success at metropolitan tracks.
The six-year-old gelding finished midfield at Warwick Farm a week ago and is expecting to figure in proceedings in the Simmo’s Signs Open Handicap over 1400m on Thursday. Ryan is again in the saddle.
Pat Farrell’s Alliterate is the $2.70 favourite, ahead of Troy O’Neile’s Try ‘n’ Run A Muck at $4. Williams also has gelding Dapperized, who is coming off a third at Wellington but is seen as an outsider at $21.
Baker’s Image will take on Wellington trainer Jim McMillan and his gelding Harry New Shoes in the Great Northern Class 1 Handicap, with McMillan’s runner offering $3.30 and Baker’s Image on the third line of betting at $4.80.
The first race jumps at 12.57pm.
