The NSW Government is investing $5 million in the new state-of-the-art education facility in Bourke to boost vocational education and training opportunities for our students and provide them with the skills they need to get jobs. The CLC will be an absolute game changer for the region.
Based on trends at other CLCs across the State, students will be able to access potentially double the amount of courses than previously available at TAFE NSW Bourke. These are all about expanding education opportunities for our local students, providing them with a modern learning environment to upskill or launch their career.
The CLCs have already proven themselves to be vital pieces of education infrastructure for rural and regional NSW.
The construction contract for the CLC is expected to be awarded in the coming weeks with construction expected to commence in July. The Bourke CLC is one of 14 CLCs being rolled out across the State, including the Coonabarabran CLC which opened in late 2017. Visit https://www.tafensw.edu.au/clc. Cracking on with Cricket
Cricket clubs in Barwon are encouraged to apply for $6 million in funds made available through the upcoming 2020 ICC World T20 Legacy Fund. I know that sports like cricket have many proven health, social and economic benefits and it is a priority for Barwon to foster participation in the region.
Barwon communities have a proud history of comradery, and the fund offers an excellent opportunity for clubs and association to form partnerships with local councils. Successful projects between $5,000 and $250,000 will be funded up to 50 per cent of projects costs. Applications close July 13. Visit www.sport.nsw.gov.au/nsw-sports-events/worldt20.
Capacity building program
The 2018-21 Council Regional Capacity Building Program aims to fund contaminated land experts in regional areas to help with contaminated site management and provide a local source of advice. The program will provide added expertise to help councils manage contamination and safeguard community wellbeing.
The program is flexible to meet the needs of regional councils, providing funding for the placement of council officers with contaminated land expertise or for NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) contaminated land officers based in regional EPA offices.
The program is only available to regional organisations of councils or groups of three or more regional councils. The NSW EPA is funding up to ten hours of assistance for each eligible applicant, to help them develop their application. Applications close on July 17. Reform of funding laws
The NSW Government will deliver on its commitment to reform the state’s electoral funding laws to increase integrity, transparency and accountability in NSW politics. The reforms implement recommendations from the Parliamentary Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters, which reviewed the work of an independent expert panel, chaired by Dr Kerry Schott.
The reforms preserve the foundations of the current electoral funding regime while introducing important changes to reduce the risk of corruption and undue influence, and promote compliance. The changes will apply for the 2019 NSW State General Election.
