About 20 of the men were advised to see their doctors as soon as possible. Many of them had high blood pressure and were unknowingly “headed for heat attacks”.
The van, known as mherv, will return to Dubbo on June 6 and 7 with registered nurse Robert Woolley ready to test men’s blood pressure, blood sugar levels and cholesterol, and measure their body mass.
Rotary District 9670 provides the free service that is managed and directed by volunteer Rotarians.
The Rotary Club of Dubbo West will perform hosting duties when mherv visits this month.
By the end of June the purpose-built caravan with two consulting rooms will have toured 56 centres in NSW since August 2017.
Major sponsors of the van are the Royal Freemasons' Benevolent Institution and NSW Mazda dealers who have provided a Mazda BT50 to tow the van.
NSW Minister for Health Brad Hazzard has supported the project with a grant covering set-up costs and the purchase of medical consumables needed to conduct the tests.
The van will be at the Church Street rotunda from 10am to 4pm each day before heading to Parkes, Wellington and Mudgee.
