The June Long Weekend is fast approaching which means it’s time to grab the family, pack the car and head to the Central West Plains of NSW for a weekend of action packed rodeo entertainment. The Coonamble Rodeo and Campdraft is renowned as one of the largest in the southern hemisphere and is celebrating it’s 63rd year of supplying plenty of fun and entertainment both in and outside the arena.

Event organisers are expecting over 5000 spectators on hand to witness upwards of 1000 competitors, testing themselves and their skills in a number of events across the three days. Last years event saw close to $80,000 given away in prize money, so there will be plenty of cash at stake, as well as pride.
Saturday, June 9 and Sunday, June 10 will see the main rodeo take place and feature a mixture of junior and senior events. There is currently over $14,000 in prize money on offer which will only further increase with add backs from entry fees. There will be some fierce competition across all events including bareback and saddle bronc riding, barrel racing, break away and team roping, steer wrestling and of course, the always spectacular bull ride.
The fun continues on Monday, June 11 with Kids Day, and will see all children admitted free of charge. The day will feature the Junior Jackpot Rodeo which will allow competitors under 21 to battle it out across a range of categories and events, and aim to head home with their share of prize money and bragging rights.
The weekend will also see the Coonamble Campdraft take place with over $12,000 in prize money already available for those who can rise to the top. With juniors, juveniles, women’s and open drafting available, there will be plenty of entrants vying for first place in a battle against time, each other, and more often than not, some stubborn cattle.

The Campdraft kicks off on Friday, June 8 at 2pm in the brand new arena which will be officially opened on the Sunday, and is being named the “Lindsay Parsons & Ross Munro Campdraft Arena”, after the two men were were so instrumental in getting the event up and running in it’s early days.
There will be plenty happening outside the arenas as well with mechanical bull-rides, sideshows, food and drink stalls manned by local community and sporting clubs, along with full bar facilities. There will also be a wealth of stall holders with belts, hats, shirts and other goods on offer, while there is live music and entertainment at the bar on Saturday night to keep the party going into the night.
