A cuppa and some treats are all part of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, the annual fundraiser that is now in its 25th year.
Westfund Health Insurance was one of the organisations getting on board, with Thursday’s morning tea at its Dubbo care centre one of 10 events it hosted across NSW and Queensland.
Westfund will be matching the funds raised at Dubbo dollar for dollar.
Staff at Dubbo Elders Rural Services also baked up a storm for the Biggest Morning Tea on Thursday.
They’ve been involved with the fundraiser for more than 10 years.
Ray White Dubbo also laid out a table of fine fare.
While May 24 is the official date for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, registrations are still open to host for the remainder of the month and throughout June.
“Every morning tea makes a difference,” Wagga-based Cancer Council NSW communications and events coordinator Brianna Carracher said.
“One Australian is diagnosed with cancer about every five minutes, the length of an average tea break.
“Today is all about making your cuppa count.
“Any locals unable to host a morning tea today can still get involved by hosting any time during May or June or attending any morning teas happening around the area.
“Every amount raised, big or small, can go a long way.
“$15 allows Cancer Council to provide easy-to-understand information on treatments, practical advice and emotional support to cancer patients and their families. $50 makes sure there’s a cancer nurse available on 13 11 20 to offer information and support to callers.”
