The Eulomogo Rural Fire Service (RFS) brigade has plans to celebrate its 70th anniversary in October.
What is now a vibrant village RFS brigade with many active members began its existence as a typical brigade protecting predominantly farmland.
Minutes reveal JE Druitt, JA Smith, M Crawley, L Lucas, TJ Brann and KG Moore came together on the afternoon of Sunday October 10, 1948 to form the brigade.
Current members wonder about what appliances and trucks the farmers who were their predecessors had in the early days.
The brigade helped protect properties, the names of which are still well-known in the Richmond-Firgrove areas.
The Lucas brothers had ‘Pinedale’, Mr Moore owned ‘Peachville’, and other properties included ‘Hillside’, ‘Bonnefields’, ‘Hampton Park’, ‘Pinevale’, ‘Woodlyn’, ‘Firgrove’ and ‘Figtree Grove’.
‘Mount Olivetta’, ‘Mount Pleasant’, ‘Whitewood’ and ‘Thornwood’ were also within the brigade’s area.
Organisers of the celebrations would like to display images of the early brigade at the celebration and put together a booklet for posterity.
They are inviting anyone with photos that relate to the subject to contact brigade captain Barry Whalan on 6884 1191 or to send the photos direct to secretary Trevor Munro at trevor_munro@hotmail.com
