The book fair was held at the Dubbo Showground on Saturday and Sunday. The annual event raises money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service and brain cancer research.
Book fair coordinator Peter Bartley said Saturday was the best day the event had had in nine years and overall he expected this year to be the most successful.
There were about 23,000 books available for purchase at the showground, with 5000 donated on Friday alone, Mr Bartley said.
DVDs, CDs and LPs were also available for purchase. By mid-morning Sunday the LP collection had shrunk from 50 to just eight.
Most books were “cheap as chips”, Mr Bartley said, priced between one and three dollars to ensure they were taken home. Most attendees took full advantage of the price, filling boxes with their new purchases.
Mr Bartley said the books that weren’t sold at the end of the event would be stored until next year’s book fair.
