More than 100 Variety Bash cars visited the school on Tuesday, bringing with them a $5000 donation.
Principal Shelley Darcey said it was a bit daunting for the nine students at the school to have such a large crowd visit. However, Ms Darcey said Variety had made her dream come true.
“I’ve wanted forever to have an outdoor learning area for our kids. We’re country kids, we’re tactile, we like to be outside doing thing in our environment. So they’ve donated kindly the resources for our outdoor learning area which is now being used for our kids,” she said.
The area was designed in consultation with the Aboriginal Education Consultative Group and contains plants typically used for bush food.
“The next step where we’re hoping to take it is over the fence and into a community market garden. We’re hoping to open it up to the rest of our community this year and link school and community in an environmentally friendly, sustainable way,” Ms Darcey said.
The Variety Bash sees a team of people driving through regional parts of Australia raising money for Variety – the Children’s Charity. More than $50,000 will be donated to regional NSW schools during the event.
