The Centenary Pavilion at Dubbo Showground was a hive of activity on Friday as Dubbo and district residents dropped off thousands of books for the ninth annual Michael Egan Memorial Book Fair.

Rotary Club of Dubbo Macquarie member and book fair coordinator Peter Bartley said 2000 books arrived in the first hour of preparations for the event on Saturday from 8am to 4pm, and Sunday from 9am to 1pm.
He expected that across Friday up to 6000 books would be donated based on phone calls received in the past couple of weeks.
The club was forced to halt collection of books earlier this year because its storage facilities had filled with 20,000 books.
Mr Bartley said the book fair’s move to the pavilion would provide “more browsing space” for readers, a better display of books of wide-ranging genres and space to run a barbecue.
He said books would be “cheaper” and as in the past the proceeds of the event would go to the Royal Flying Doctor Service Dubbo Support Group and the Bill Walsh Cancer Research Centre at Royal North Shore Hospital.
Entry to the showground on Saturday and Sunday will be via Wingewarra Street.
