Fiona Prentice, Macquarie Home Stay secretary, said the grant was a real bonus.
“We wanted to have the communal area where people could gather outside and share some time with family and friends in a more open space,” she said.
Ms Prentice was thankful for all of the local and wider community support.
“Since the very early days of the project we’ve had a lot of letters of support and donations from all across the north-western community from donations to say people care to more significant financial ones, so there’s very much a sense of people wanting to see this facility here for the wider community to utilise,” she said.
Ms Prentice said Macquarie Home Stay, once completed, will be a home away from home for many people.
“It’s all about levelling the playing field,” she said.
“We can go and access our health services with ease but for people who come from significant distance that’s often an enormous challenge.”
If all goes to plan the construction should be completed later this year with the rooms to be occupied by the end of 2018.
