Its plea coincides with National Volunteer Week.
Youth Frontiers is operating out of headspace Dubbo.
It focuses on young people aged 12 to 16 years who are under-engaged in school or local community life and have had limited opportunities.
The program gives mentees and mentors an opportunity to build life skills, self-confidence and achieve recognition for community projects.
Marathon Health Youth Frontiers project officer Cindy Neilson said the program was a perfect way for community members to be involved in shaping positive experiences for Dubbo youth.
“Youth Frontiers is a unique and fulfilling program,” Ms Neilson said. “We really encourage anyone who is looking to be more involved in the community to sign up as a mentor. You’ll have the potential to change a young person’s life through knowledge and support.”
Ms Neilson is also promoting volunteering.
“Volunteering is an amazing chance to do something meaningful for your community,” she said. “The theme for National Volunteer Week 2018 is ‘Give a little. Change a lot’ which ties in well with the role of Youth Frontiers mentors, who will have the chance to help young people achieve a brighter future.”
The Youth Frontiers program was launched by the NSW government in 2015.
Each year it has seen almost 1200 young people mentored across NSW.
In March the government committed funding for the program up to 2020.
It announced that Save the Children Australia was one of four organisations to receive a share of $6.6 million across three years.
Marathon Health, a not-for-profit primary healthcare organisation, has been contracted by Save the Children Australia to run the program in Western NSW.
