Tyler Everingham has taken little time to settle into life in the V8 Touring Car series, scoring his first win on the weekend and moving into second overall after two rounds.

Three races were contested at Winton and Everingham took out the second after taking some time to come to grips with the wet surface.
Everingham, 17, was one of the stars of the second round and the breakthrough win was one to remember, although it appears others celebrated it more than he did.
“Mum and Dad were there and they came straight up to me and gave me a hug so it’s great having support like that,” he said.
“But it’s sort of another race. You’ve just got to go again.”
The focus and determination is what has helped Everingham make such an impact behind the wheel.
After a successful stint in Formula 4 he has wasted little time in making a name for himself in the V8 Touring Car series, which is the third tier under Supercars.
And while the opening win is something to be proud of, Everingham is much more focused on what’s ahead.
“It’s good. We saved some tyres for future rounds and that will help so we’re on track for the championship,” he said after Winton.
The strategy side of racing is something Everingham is still learning.
“It’s something I’m not used to,” he said.
“But driving an ex-supercar, you go through tyres really quickly so it’s hard to get used to the weight and size of them and that strategy side.”
While he’s still learning, the young gun does feel he’s settled into his new competition quickly.
While he’s stepping up from the open wheels of Formula 4, spending time in MARC cars and the Australian Production Cars series has helped him make the transition.
“That has helped with the power levels but I think I’ve settled in quick and feeling confident,” he said.
Confidence was clear on the weekend.
In the first round of qualifying, Everingham admitted he and his MW Motorsport team got it wrong and that resulted in him finishing in ninth spot.
But when it was time for the actual race, that was when the Dubbo teen showed his talent.
His worked his way through the field after narrowly avoiding a stalled car at the start and finished the opening race in third spot.
With the round featuring a progressive grid, that meant he started the second race much closer to the front.
From that third spot he was part of a thrilling four-way battle for first.
Series leader Josh Smith led the race early however Everingham was on the move early and got to second on lap two and then the race lead a lap later.
Smith returned to the front a lap later, though only for that one tour of Winton’s 3.1 kilometres – Everingham back in front by lap five.
That was where he stayed in what was an eye-catching performance.
Everingham now sits second overall after two rounds, 23 points behind Smith.
The third round of the series will be contested from June 8-10 at Sydney Motorsport Park.
