For most of the estimated four-million four-legged friends that are part of Australian families, life is good - they are well fed, beautifully groomed, constantly pampered and absolutely loved.
But not all canines - or a range of other animals, for that matter - are as lucky.
And those less fortunate critters depend upon the love and support they receive from RSPCA organisations across the state.
The Million Paws Walk is the RSPCA’s largest annual fundraising op-paw-tunity to help continue their important work in the community.
Animal lovers across the Central West and their cute canines will pound the pavement on Sunday, May 20 in support of the campaign against animal cruelty.
The Walk, now in its 24th year, continues to grow in popularity with 8,000 animals expected top attend this years event. In NSW alone over $258,000 has been raised this year to help take care of the 33,000 animals in RSPCA care.
“This is the equivalent to providing warm shelter and safety, food and love for 76 dogs for a year – which highlights the charity’s desperate need for the community’s support,” RSPCA NSW CEO Steve Coleman said.
“With 98 per cent of funding coming from the generosity of the community, you literally power our ability to save lives from abuse, house those experiencing hardship or fleeing domestic violence, give shelter, love and new hope to those that have been abandoned and neglected, and educate the next generation of responsible pet owners to break cycles of abuse and neglect.”
So plan to lace up your walking shoes and head down to the nearest Million Paws Walk event for a day of fun activities, competitions, food, new friends, and of course, the walk.
Even if you don’t have an animal of your own, there will be plenty to play with on the day. For details and to register, visit www.millionpawswalk.com.au/NSW/home and start transforming the lives of animals in need.
And remember, the entry price to the annual Million Paws Walk only covers the cost of running the event so dig deep on the day, or if you can’t make it to a walk in your area, donate online.
