Colourful decorations, outfits, fruit and cake brightened the event celebrating International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) .
May 17 is the anniversary of the day in 1990 when the World Health Organisation removed the classification of homosexuality as a mental disorder.
IDAHOBIT seeks to shine a spotlight on the violence and discrimination that LGBTIQ+ communities continue to experience around the world.
The HOPE program at the Dubbo Neighbourhood Centre is “dedicated to working with people who experience trauma in their lives” including members of the LGBTIQA+ community, reports its clinical director Ann-Maree Hartley.
