Kasey and will be playing across many venues over five months, including Dubbo, as part of her ‘Campfire’ tour.
The tour coincides with the release of Kasey’s new album, also called Campfire.
It is an album Kasey has wanted to make her entire life.
Campfires resonate with Kasey and her family because when she was younger her father, mother and brother would often sit around a campfire singing songs and learning schoolwork as they travelled.
“It was a big part of my life and I have so many beautiful memories,” she said.
Kasey’s love of campfire and the intimacy it brings is what she hopes will resonate with audiences on the tour.
“While I do love playing those big shows, for me personally I feel more comfortable (at the smaller shows) where it fells like we’re just sitting in a lounge room jamming and sharing stories,” she said.
Kasey said she loves every aspect of her job, including writing, recording and the promotional side to it, but it was being on stage that she most enjoyed.
“I’d feel unfinished if I didn’t go and play to people...That’s my favourite part, to be on stage and connect with people in the room,” she said.
While growing up Kasey and her family would often travel across the central west, including Dubbo, to perform at local pubs and clubs.
Kasey remembers those trips to Dubbo fondly and said she was looking forward to coming back out again.
“I used to play there with the family band years ago, way before the Captain album came out,” she said.
“”I remember playing in one of the pubs, but we couldn’t afford accommodation so we set up camp at the side of a road and we lit a fire and sleep under the stars. Then we drove into town to play gigs.”
Thankfully this time Kasey and her band, which includes her father, will be staying in a motel when they come to play at the Dubbo RSL on Saturday, July 21.
Kasey said she hopes audiences are taken on a musical and personal journey during the Dubbo show.
Not only will she be playing songs form her Campfire album, but also songs from Captain, Rattle and Bones and more.
“I’m really looking forward to coming out. Dubbo is such an important part of my early touring years and an integral part of my musical journey,” she said.
“I’m a regional girl and I love playing at regional towns.. I feel quite connected to them.”
