Goodstart is a not-for-profit social enterprise with a goal to ensure all Australian children are given the best start in life, regardless of their circumstances.
Goodstart Dubbo Wheelers Lane centre director, Nicole Stonestreet, said their early learning model was inclusive and meant centres worked with families to provide quality learning and care for all children.
“Being not for profit means that any surplus is reinvested back into the centres. From upgrading playgrounds and centre facilities to buying new resources and investing heavily in training for staff, it’s all about making sure we provide the best possible learning environments for children,” she said.

The Wheelers Lane centre offers longer operational hours of 6.30am to 6.30pm, with a pick-up and drop-off service available as well as vacation care. The centre has its own bus which provides the opportunity to engage in a wider variety of learning experiences and enables more opportunities to connect with the local community.
There is also a large natural yard at the centre which Nicole says encourages children to learn and discover while thinking outside the square.

“We have brought the learning environment out into the yard. We have bird feeders, an outdoor eating space and two sand pits and plenty of natural space where the children can explore and be imaginative,” she said.
The centre strongly values relationships with families and has created an environment that includes families. “We are a very inclusive centre. Our group sizes are smaller and that provides a more intimate setting,” Nicole said.
Goodstart are proud of their strong family and community ties. The centres recently participated in the ANZAC Day march and also have a special relationship with Western Plains Zoo. There is also a strong focus on recycling with a project underway where children walk down to the local recycling station and drop off their cans, cartons and bottles.
