One of those businesses was coffee shop Athenian.
Owner Barbara Johnson only just took over in January this year and said the previous owners used to open on Anzac Day so they decided they would too.
“It’s been a good day. Coffee plus bacon and egg rolls has been the most popular with customers,” she said.
Ms Johnson said it was “worthwhile” to open Anzac Day as it was a very busy day and trade was fantastic.
Before working at Athenian Ms Johnson said she would normally participate in Anzac Day services but being in Talbragar Street the Athenian staff were able to watch the Anzac Day march from the shop.
