This is the fourth year the Cancer Council has held the Dance for Cancer. It pairs up local celebrities with Dubbo dance schools to raise money towards cancer research.
With just over a week until the event, Ms Hayden said taking part in the Stars of Dubbo had been wonderful.
“I’ve learnt the routine, I’ve just got to remember it,” Ms Hayden said.
“I’m getting nervous a little bit now it’s getting a bit closer. But it’s all for a good cause and I’m looking forward to the night.”
Ms Hayden will be paired with fellow star Cassandra Williams to perform in front of the judges. Ms Hayden said she used to look after Ms Williams’ children. When the idea was floated to pair them up for the dance routine, both women were happy with the idea.
“It’s kind of nice knowing I’ve got someone by my side who’s doing the same thing I’m doing. The Monster Raffle we’re doing together but most of the fundraising we’re doing on our own,” Ms Hayden said.
The Goodstart Early Learning employee has far surpassed her fundraising target. She’s currently sitting second on the fundraising leaderboard having raised more than $4200.
Ms Hayden said she had been trying to get the children and parents and Goodstart Early Learning involved in the fundraising so they knew what she was doing and why she was doing it. She’s held events such as raffles and discos to raise as much money as possible through the Dance for Cancer.
“I thought about all the reasons I shouldn’t do it and then I thought, no I should. Why not?” she said.
“I’m doing it for my great-aunt who passed away from cancer. I also have a lot of friends and family and colleagues who have been affected by cancer. This is my way of doing something to help.”
Ms Hayden said she had enjoyed the challenge of learning the routine and encouraged others to take it on in future years.
The Stars of Dubbo Dance for Cancer will be held on Saturday May, 5. The event will be held on Saturday May, 5. Tickets are $100 per person and include canapes, a two course meal and entertainment.
