Chris Williams scored a career-first at Narromine Turf Club on Sunday but it was an all too familiar sight in the day’s feature event.

Williams, the former Dubbo-based apprentice now at Wyong with Kim Waugh, rode his first winning treble but in the day’s feature, the Narromine USMC Diggers Cup, he had to settle for fourth.
In that event, champion jockey Greg Ryan scored yet another win to add to his collection, saluting with the Peter Bloomfield-trained Barricade.
Ryan, who won the Wellington Boot with the Bjorn Baker-trained Miss Invincible earlier this month, combined with Barricade to win the Diggers Cup (1300m) by half-a-length.
Jumping on the second line of betting behind Clint Lundholm’s Joey’s Destiny ($3.30), Ryan and Barricade ($5) settled deep in the field early on.
Williams, at that time chasing his third win, led the way with Joey’s Destiny and got out to a four-length lead approaching the 700m mark, with the Justin Stanley-trained trio of Incision ($19), Party Bag ($15) and Coming In Hot ($9) in pursuit.
That was when Barricade began to move up around the outside in dusty and wet and conditions.
Joey’s Destiny still led into the straight but Ryan had nothing but clear space in front of him down the outside and pushed on to score victory.
Incision ran home for second while Richard The First ($31) was first and Joey’s Destiny had to settle for a fourth straight fourth-placed finish.
Williams won the last event with the Kody Nestor-trained Kenny Succeed, following wins with Gayna Williams’ Dapperized and Danny Parsons’ Ridgi Ridge.
